A guinea pig in uniform is the best New Zealand policeman

A guinea pig in uniform is the best New Zealand policeman A guinea pig in uniform is the best New Zealand policeman We’ve heard of police dogs, but police guinea pigs are a new one.Yet this weekend, New Zealand Police introduced the world to  Constable Elliot, a fluffy guinea pig in a police uniform. The new mascot isn’t just decorative, however. He also has a job to do: giving out safety tips. The organization posted photos of the fuzzy critter on its Facebook page to show him hard at work, joining the ranks of working animals we admire including Pandora the Cat.Constable Elliot is unlikely to strike fear into anyone, but he looks dashing in his little uniform and cap and he wields authority surprisingly well despite - or perhaps because of - his fluffiness. The caption for one of his public photos starts off with an adorable account of how “a piggie’s top speed” can  reportedly be “around 9km/hr,”  and later launches into this: “…I am not too fast and that’s the way I like it â€" slow is safe! Keep this in mind when you are driving near any schools tomorrow. Remember people, the kids are going to be out and about walking and biking, and crossing roads. Like me, they are small and unpredictable, so you have to watch out!…”A  photo features Elliot next to a toy car, with the caption:“Look what I just found; dumped next to the toy box. Tut tut. I think this driver forgot to look after their Subaru. Always remember to lock your car, remove all valuables and use a steering wheel lock or car alarm. More on car theft prevention here. #lockitorloseit.”Another photo features Constable Elliot sprawled out, with the playful caption, ‘Just the facts ma’am…’ABC World News Now even tweeted a video of Constable Elliot hard at work.Even if Constable Elliot can’t physically  fight crime, he’s sure to raise safety awareness among locals.
